Students in the camp are placed in small groups. Teachers use the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to deliver effective instruction, create sufficient practice opportunities, and manage behavior in the classroom. Additionally, our Autism summer camp provides instruction and practice with social skills, personal care skills, and leisure activities like swimming, art, and music.
Our campers also make weekly trips experience summer fun in the Columbus and Dublin area and to practice specific community skills.
If your child is a K-12 student (age 5 to 21) with special needs, our camp is the best mix of fun and goal-oriented learning in an appropriate instructional environment available in the greater Columbus area. Our ten-plus years of experience in the field of Autism and special needs education give us incredible insight on how to construct a positive, intrinsically motivating atmosphere for learning to take place.
Haugland’s Autism summer camp in Columbus makes full use of our Central Ohio facilities, including an indoor pool for daily swim lessons, a gym, a daily living skills lab, an indoor playground, and a video game room for reward breaks.
Campers are grouped according to age and ability into small classes (ratios of 1:3 to 1:7 depending on ability) so they can spend time building friendships through commonalities with peers.
Current Haugland students/clients and students planning to enroll for the following school year are eligible to attend.
Students/clients are defined as: students enrolled in one of Haugland’s center-based or home-based programs or clients receiving mental health services, respite services, etc. from the Haugland companies.
